VW Rabbit drivers side seat belt fix

Hi,

I know that the Rabbit is a common conversion. I have the Pickup of the
same I'm converting now. It suffers a problem that seems to be common (when
I went looking for parts). The drivers side seat belt won't latch. I
managed to fix this without replacing any parts, or doing any modifications
to the latch that should have an effect on its saftey, but I did kill the
seat belt warning system doing it (actually, even the wiring is gone now).
It seems that the belt system was well designed, except that the safety
light was an add-on that defeated the self cleaning design.

If your year/color is a common one then its easier to just get a new latch
(at least for now). If not, it can be fixxed by removing the belt safety
light switch from the seat belt on the drivers side. If anyone has run this
trouble I can post the rework needed. Its not that hard.
