EV Q&A: Doesn't Li-ion battery production require petroleum?

EV Q&A: Doesn't Li-ion battery production require petroleum?
{As POSTed on the Electric Vehicle List}

[There is a Li-ion search link on the second page of my site:

The plastic casing, and the Polymer elements are mostly likely made
from oil. These can be made from bio sources, but at this time,
petroleum sources are lower in cost.

IHMO: Getting a Li-ion EV battery to the market is a higher priority.
The recycling of the battery will be even easier as more of the
batteries are produced. Thus more 're-use' of that plastic will be
seen.

At some point, plastic from bio sources will be competitive. To
demand all plastic components of a vehicle be made from bio sources,
is not worthy of your attention right now.

More petroleum is used by the ICE in it's life time, than the
vehicle's recyclable plastic components.    -BruceDP@iname.com

don't the materials in this battery require oil to produce it? I
guess this is true of most batteries but it seem like this would take
more.   -Will
