The traditional lube for speedometer cables is graphite suspended in
solvent.  It won't gum up after long use as grease or oil will.

Before most speedometers were electronic, this used to be sold as
"speedometer cable lube" in tiny plastic squeeze vials for several dollars.
It is still sold as "graphited lock fluid" in larger cans for about the same
price.  I have used the latter for years.  Works great.
