A cause for the new millenium (OT)

 Our EVs get their locomotion from two sources; Gravity and Electricity.

Sure its fun coasting downhill in our Electric cars; but how often do we give even a second thought to this wonder called gravity?  

Gravity is both our friend and our enemy.  If you are a bungee jumper or a skydiver, gravity is your friend.  However, if you are walking on a slippery rooftop, gravity is your enemy.  Watch out!  Gravity has to be used carefully.

When you are driving your EV up a hill, gravity is not your friend.  Coast down the other side and gravity is your friend again as you use it to your advantage.  Airliners use gravity when they descend from 30 or 35 thousand feet.  Obviously they use more gravity descending for a landing than an EV would use while coasting down a 3-mile hill.   

This makes me consider how much gravity we use in this modern world of air travel and space shuttles.  Just think even, of all those elevators descending from the heights of the thousands of skyscrapers.  Hundreds of trips per day per elevator, per skyscraper, per city and you suddenly have the equivalent of several space shuttle landings.

We should not take all this gravity for granted.  Do you realize that the North American is only a small fraction of the worlds population, yet we use more than = the gravity?  In a years time, several jumbo jets use more gravity than the entire worlds population did during the first millennium.

We, as EVers are a forward thinking lot and most progressive when considering the squandering of our resources.  

Saving gravity!  This is not a new issue.  At the end of WWII, the high gravity usage by the bombers was brought to the attention of congress. Immediately they tried to get the pound lowered to 10 ounces. (This was in anticipation of the space program) It was defeated by a handful of senators that led the faction that was able to provide an extra hour of daylight in the summer time. (They did this without taking away even a minute of darkness and still kept the day at 24 hours  See?  We only elect the most brilliant amongst us to serve in congress).  This clever bit of legislation caused them to unite with the congressional group, which gave us Social Security, thereby immortalizing a nice Italian immigrant named Ponzi.  

Both opposition groups ridiculed the gravity caucus.  It seems that the majority could not grasp the weight of the problem. 

Gravity is directly responsible for nearly 50% of the EVers locomotion!  So as this millennium comes to a close, we should give thanks for our blessing of abundance. Lets not forget about gravity and the wonders it brings us. The time has arrived when we must consider conserving it for future millenia.
