The problem them becomes maintenance.  How do you tell one wire from another
when they are not color coded?  While it can be done, it's a pain in the
butt.

Unless you are looking for to spend a lot of time and frustration on this,
I'd stick with the OEM wiring and maybe just run heavier wires for the
headlights.  The rest of the standard wiring should be fine unless it's
20-30 years old, then it might be starting to get brittle.
