The batteries should have there tops cleaned then rinsed with some
distilled water. When the batteries are in a metal box there should be some
plastic in the bottom to help break any unwanted coupling of the drive
system to the frame. Also the box should be provided with some drains so
water won't collect down there. A complete plastic box inside of the metal
box would be best. Flooded batteries need not just watering and occational
cleaning of the tops too (and all batteries should have connections checked
regularly).
