It's not that alternators are intrinsically bad; they are actually
rather good. It's just that AUTOMOTIVE alternators are built very
poorly.

Yes. Compound motors, too. I don't know if they have a web site.

Yes, essentially all motor manufacturers. "Affordable" is not as much
the problem as getting GE, Prestolite, etc. sell you ONE of anything.

I happen to have a 240vdc 50amp DC generator if you're interested. It's
made by Westinghouse, and has both series and shunt fields. Contact me
