Shouldn't reveal the source, but someone working at Ford told me the charger
could have been made for 1/2 the price, but they didn't want to embarrass
the maker of the one they are using. Goes to show they are not making any
serious efforts to reduce cost. Kind of like the gold-plated inductive
chargers with way too many power conversion stages. The EV1 recall would be
the perfect time to go conductive and end the charger incompatability
problem. Oh well, hope CA can force reasonableness eventually.
