Panasonic has been building Gel Cells for standby applications for decades.
I don't know what is different about the new EV batteries, but I suspect
they are just AGMs like Optimas. If they are, then this would give them
about double the capacity of their old Gel Cells in an EV type application.
At any rate I doubt they have switched their entire line-up over to the
"New" technology.
Statements like "Twice the capacity of normal Lead-Acid" is just a marketing
ploy if you don't define a "Normal Lead-Acid battery" or how you are
measuring capacity. Optimas provide twice the capacity of flooded batteries
at extremely high current draws, and only about 2/3 the capacity of flooded
at very low current draw.
I haven't seen anything that says that the new Panasonic batteries provide
twice the capacity of Optimas in an EV application.
