Re: Fuse questions

I had two 500 amp Gould AmpTrap A50 semiconductor protection fuses. They were
rated for 600VAC and derated for 250VDC. I had one fuse in each 144V string
of Hawker Genesis batteries. I routinely (start-up) drew 300-400 amps from
each string and occasionally drew 700 amps through each 500 amp fuse. Then
one day I had a freshly charged pack and John Wayland driving my car with a
few...shall we say...performance starts...well...both fuses went silently...I
think...the tires were groaning and squeeling so loudly I didn't hear any
bangs. I now have two 800 amp fuses.

Anyway, these fuses will routinely take more amps than they're rated for.
300 amp fuse for a 400 amp controller...no problem. A 450 amp fuse will
probably never blow...uhhh...no don't quote me on that...I learned enough
about EVs to know...NEVER say "never".
