Excellent post, Lee!  This really does hit some of the basics.  There
are so many more, of course, but this is a great start.  It should be
linked to as part of a FAQ.

I am still a bit confused about the 1.75 volt per cell limit.  It
seems that this limit depends on both the internal impedance of the
battery and the SOC.  Obviously, a battery at low SOC should not be
drawn below this value, but how about a cold or old one?  I guess that
the old one would be prone to overheating, but probably not reversing.
