Hi,  I have seen anyone post an answer back yet so here goes.

In order to get 30 miles at 55mph you are probably going to need 8 Optima
YTs.  Now the real trick is going to be figuring out how to get 8 YTs onto a
ZX-6.

I have a ZX-900 nearing completion and I am using some batteries that are
only slightly larger than YTs.  I'm having trouble trying to get six of them
on the bike and may just give up and use five.  Six YTs would fit easily.

I'd recommend you either accept a shorter range or a lower speed to get
there and use 6 YTs and a 72V system.  A few folks have had Golftech
industries build them modified 48V Curtis controllers that run at 72V.  The
bonus is; since these are rebuilt controllers they are actually cheaper than
buying new 48V Curtis controllers.

controller.  You have to call them and have it specially made.

P.S.  to find out how many batteries you can mount on the bike, try building
cardboard or foam mockups of the batteries and then try different
arrangements to see how many will fit.  Don't forget to make a mockup of the
motor too.
