Hi Rich,

Are you sure you've got the GM pump? The GM pump has a vacuum switch built
in and will just cycle on and off as required to maintain the vacuum in
your booster. Unless there are serious leaks in your vacuum system, it
won't run for more than a few (tens of) seconds at a time.

Good Stuff I got one for my EV Fiero. 
worked great until I left the key on all weekend and then went to
Portland.... I think it got a bit hot.
The Fiero just got repowered... and well I have to R&R the vac pump and
see what damage it took.
Oh the Pump is a Bosch As I recall
