Re: Just ask, do not SPAM

Bruce, et al,

I have to respectfully disagree with your response and suggestion for
action. It may be that this person deseerves a spanking.
Suggesting that everyone who feels they have been spammed to spam back
is only telling everyone to stoop to the level of the person who did this,
who may actually not have known how to get off the list, even though there
are many ways to find out how. But WE KNOW how these things are done, and
WE KNOW that this person has done a bad thing. For the rest of us to go and
do the SAME THING he did makes us worse than he is. It is likely he is
ignorant, either deliberately, or because he is Rebuplican (oops, sorry),
and he really doesn't care about the bad effects his actions have on other
people. (But I repeat myself) (Did I say that out loud?)

We know better. Bruce, you are the self appointed "list-cop" among your
many virtuous duties. For you to suggest to us that we should set things to
right by going and doing the bad thing this bad person did just doesn't make
sense. Bruce you have done a greater wrong than he has in telling many people
to do a bad thing that you KNOW BETTER should not be done.
Two wrongs do not, even on the EV list, make a right.

The only acceptable response in this case is to delete the guy as quickly and
quietly as possible. Then get on with the business at hand.

As far as keeping people off, until they really-really-really know what they
are doing, all I can say Bruce is that you and your two friends will have a
lonely time of it when the rest of us are gone because we don't meet one of
the criteria you have set out.

This is a "public" place. Most people will abide by normally accepted standards
of behavior most of the time. There are still those who, no matter how nice
we try to encourage them to be, will still piss on the sidewalk, barf in the
gutter, and do otherwise rude and unacceptible things in public until we tell
them they have to leave. It comes with the territory called "free country".
No I DON'T like it. No I DON'T think we should have to put up with it.
But we will, until we persuade all people not to do ugly selfish things
in public. If we start taking priveleges away from people one by one, someday
someone will be coming for MY FREEDOM, then yours will be next.

THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE WHAT LOSER SPAM GUY DID.

It's the price we have to pay for being here. I don't like it, but it doesn't
happen often enough that we need to talk "retaliation".

Bruce, next time, if you are right there on the spot, please just delete the
guy, and send the list a polite, modest message stating that has been done.
The rest of you, please don't give this virtuous community a black eye by going
out and spamming the spammers "because it's what they deserve".

I will hold on to the naive belief that we have better things to do with our
time.

Thanks for your attention.
