I've had a Prius in my family since last Sept. I live in mountainous northern
California. The Prius has better than average acceleration, thanks to the
torque from the electric motor.  It's particularly strong in the 40 - 70 mph
range.  It'll do just fine for you in the mountains.  I've forced motorcycles
to pull over for me in the mountains, it's no econ-slug.
