Re: EV Insurance
I have my Jet Electrica insured with State Farm. I just told them what it was. They didn't have a clue, but gave me a quote and stuck by it. They didn't seem to really care that it was electric.

Does anyone know an insurance company that operates in Canada and will
insure automobiles that have been converted to electric power? My insurance
company Liberty Mutual has purchased the auto insurance business of
Prudential (I think) and has insured both of our family cars for years, but
will not insure my Saturn if I convert it to an electric? There are many EVs
here in Canada, but they are mostly in Ontario and British Columbia, with
none or maybe a few here in Alberta. BC has government run insurance (ICBC),
but as far as I know in Ontario they still have private insurers. Does State
Farm or Allstate(American) or perhaps The Co-Operators (Canadian) insure
EVs? What do you tell them when applying? Liberty Mutual thought than an EV
was too experimental, but our Department of Transportation accepts EVs as
any other car, other than EV conversions which must undergo a complete
mechanical and safety inspection before being allowed back on the road. At
that time, they will issue a new VIN number for the car. I need to find an
insurer before moving forward with my conversion and pulling out the gas
engine.
Thanks
