Probably true. The ones built for normal sized refrigerators aren't
built to move enough BTUs. And, they are using freon, which has a phase
change (gas-liquid), which moves a lot more heat for a given amount of
fluid.

However, nothing stops you from using freon as the coolant for your
controller.
