Another problem is that while NiMH have much higher specific energy than
lead batteries, their energy density improvement, while significant, is
not as great. So you'd still need a fair bit of real estate for them,
and there's just not much spare room in the Sparrow anywhere.
And of course the cost for NiMH is still astronomical.
You could consider nicads instead. It would be a challenge, requiring a
fair bit of modification to handle the lower voltage (I don't see any way
to fit 26 6-volt modules 24cm x 12cm x 26cm into that chassis). But it's
not impossible, and the cost is more manageable than that of NiMH.
