Donor vehicle available
Sorry if this is OT, but I wanted to offer this to the list in case anyone
here is looking to convert a minivan. It would be nice to see it recycled
as an EV. I simply do not have the money to do it. This vehicle is similar
in body style to the TEVan but a little older.
Our 1991 Voyager has been been given a terminal diagnosis. We have removed
insurance from it and have replaced it as the family vehicle. The good news
is that the damage is completely confined to the engine. To be fair, it
still runs, but it has an unbelievably hard to find coolant leak, and smokes
on accelleration. If you buy it you could drive it home, but you should
probably have somebody follow you.
Here's the features:
A/C (works fine)
Power steering and brakes
3-speed Automatic (transmission is in excellent condition)
total mileage about 190000
Relatively new tires. New khumos on front, 1 year old Dunlop SP20's on
back.
Front Wheel Drive, of course.
Paint and body is in great shape. The van has not been in any accidents.
If you cut access panels in the floor between the frame rails, you could
have easy maintenance access for a bunch of batteries.
I ran numbers on Uve's EV page, and got an estimated range with a Kostov and
156V of SAFT 100 Amp-Hour NiCads of 50 miles at 60 MPH. Using these, it
comes in at about 4900 pounds. The 140 Amp-Hour version yielded almost 70
miles at 60 MPH, and about 5138 pounds. I used Uve's info for a '95
caravan, which I assumed was about the same, and added the actual gear
ratios.
I'm asking $2000.
If anyone is interested, email me *off list*. Thanks.
