Here's a fuel cell hybrid project on the web:
http://www.venturer.rutgers.edu/
Their car did fairly well in a recent (1999) Tour de Sol. This year they
planned to run a larger fuel cell vehicle, a converted Ford Taurus I
think, but Michael Bianci reported that he didn't see it at the event.
Maybe it wasn't ready in time.
Could you do something similar for $30,000? Now ~that~ would be a
challenge.
The fuel cells the Venturer used are real production models, built by H
Power (I think) for traffic signs and used quite successfully by the New
Jersey DOT for that purpose. At one time someone on this list
investigated the purchase of one of these fuel cells for an E-bicycle and
I think got a price. I don't have time right now to search my archives
for the post, but you might be able to find it in the yahoo archive.
