Hi Jim,
Most 36 volt Golf car motors are either 2 or 3.5 HP. Most all late
model golf cars use internal splined drive ends with no support
bearing. They are almost useless for project applications when not
using the rear end they came with. The cost of machining a bearing
housing and shaft adaptor could cost as much as a used motor. Some of
the earlier cars had external spined shafts. The Harleys in the
seventies had dual keyed shafts. These were 1.5 HP. General Electric
motors. Running them on 72 volts will yield 30 MPH in one of these
early heavy Harley golf cars. I hope this helps. To look at pictures
of various golf car motors check out our new golf car parts store at
<http://www.evparts.com>. Motors with highlighted "see more" have
torque curves.
