BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) - France's leading car maker Citroen, a
major foreign partner of the Chinese automotive industry, is looking
forward to more business opportunities in Beijing since it won the
right to hold the 2008 Olympic Games.

"We attach importance to the Green Olympics advocated by Beijing and
will continue to help popularize environment-friendly cars in
Beijing," said Jean-Claude Germain, Citroen's chief representative in
China.

Citroen has been building Fukang brand cars with one of China's top
car makers for many years. In the first half of this year, the sales
of popular Fukang cars increased by 18 percent from a year earlier.

The car sells well in the Chinese market for Citroen's advanced
technology, which is in keeping with China's pollution control
efforts.

"It is also excellent in terms of safety, economy and comfort," said
Zhang Yan, who has been a taxi driver for years.

There are now more than 60,000 taxis in Beijing, among which about
15,000 are Fukang cars. As more environment-friendly cars will be
adopted by Beijing's taxi companies, experts believe Fukang will have
a bigger share of the local taxi market.

Citroen, the first industrialized car manufacturer in the world to
sell electric cars, signed an agreement recently with Wuhan, capital
of central China's Hubei Province, on the trial use of its electric
cars.

Wuhan has bought 20 electric cars from Citroen and become China 's
first electric vehicle research and development base, approved by the
Ministry of Science and Technology.
