The Saft NiMH and LIon batteries aren't in serial production. They are,
as I understand it, available only on a special order from OEMs and
researchers. I doubt that Saft would supply hobbyists, or that we could
afford them.
(You can thank the California state backdown for that. In the early to
mid 90s, Saft had plans to build a NiMH plant in the US. They shelved
them when the California mandate was watered down.)
The price I've heard for the Ovonics is $2,500 per 12-volt, 85 amp hour
module. That may have fallen some. I sure hope so!
I have no idea of the Panasonic NiMH availability or price.
Gold Peak also makes NiMH, but again I think in limited quantities. They
are fairly small modules. A lister posted this info back in February:
