Hi Chris,

It's not uncommon in my experience to have contractors give a ridiculously
low price for the labor, and whack you for double the materials cost. I'm
not an electrician either, but I agree with Lawrence that it sounds way off.
I wish I could do more than encourage you to shop around. I've been doinked
out of some major money on a small project by someone who knew how to
manipulate people.

Glad you have the initiative and spirit to do as you are to charge. Please
be careful, of course.

Hope someone can help you more with specific info.
