Steve, Chris, and others, yes, this did come from Bruce. I share Steve and Chris's
feelings about this subject, but depart company when calling Bruce a moroon, moron, or
whatever. Bruce is a dear friend of mine, and while we rarely agree with some of the
over-the-edge subjects Bruce subscribes to, our friendship remains undaunted.
Bruce has been doing the EV community a great service for many years now with the
publishing of E.T., and I have enjoyed being a staff writer for him on occasions. Yes, he
goes into some weird topics, but he also covers very sound, informative EV related
subjects.
Bruce can always be found at countless EV expos, EV car shows, races, etc., and he
travels all around the country and the world trying to promote EVs and alternative forms
of transportation. Many years ago now, when I was in between work and living a more lean
life, Bruce made it possible for me to attend EVS14 across the country, and he made sure I
was well cared for in all respects. I don't know of too many EVers who are more involved,
more dedicated, or more helpful than Bruce Meland. One year, when other sponsors pulled
out at the last minute or failed to keep promises, Bruce footed most of the bill for a
Woodburn NEDRA race, to which all of us are still very grateful. Even though Bruce knows
his drag bike can't best the times of famous KillaCycle, he still plows ahead for each
race and puts a ton of effort into the EV racing scene. Bruce is the co-chair of the OEVA
and puts a lot of effort into keeping our EV club alive and well. Bruce has helped me in
more ways than I can count with my own racing program. Bruce is always there when you need
him, no questions asked....whether it's to help tow an EV to a show, help with modifying a
vehicle hours before race time, help with running errands....the list goes on.
It's OK to disagree with Bruce, especially on his sometimes wacky, sometimes
unscientific ideas. Heck, he and I go to the mat all the time over some of his beliefs.
But Steve, Chris, and others, I'll tell tell you this....if you are ever in need of help
in some form at some time, Bruce Meland is the one guy you can always count on. Please
consider these things before you decide to scratch Bruce or his EV magazine off your list.
I venture to say, that if you get the chance to meet Bruce in person, you'll instantly
find him a kind, intelligent, and very entertaining, fellow whom you will be glad to call
your friend....yes, even while you totally disagree with him :-)
See Ya.....John Wayland
