Saft nicads are about one-third of the cost per mile of Optimas, but
about double the cost per mile of flooded lead. This is because they
have a very long cycle life -- 2500 to 3500 cycles. For many people the
upfront cost is tough to swallow, though -- about $8,000 for a 144 volt,
100 amp hour (at 100 amps) pack.
NiMH and Lithium have quite a distance to go yet before they are
affordable for normal civilians.
