Hi Phil, welcome to the EVList.
There are some of us in the UK, I'm one of them -
- I'm converting a Mini pickup to an EV.
I like the idea of a Landrover conversion, and Wilde
Evolutions should be able to help you if you do decide to
convert it. There are a couple of companies here in the UK
who do conversions and parts, try looking for
AVT ( Rob Fowler ) http://www.avt-uk.com ?
E2V ( Dave Bock ) http://www.e2v.co.uk
both offer kits of parts to do a conversion,
worth checking out.
My Mini's website is at

Electro Automotive's Rabbit/Golf kit is probably a very
good starting point, you might have some fun with the
kit being made for continental/american VW's not UK ones
( steering wheel on wrong side, pedal mechanisms in the way? )
but probably nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little
engineering. They've sold lots of these kits, and have a
good reputation.
It all depends upon what you expect to get from your conversion,
remember it'll take a fair bit of effort and cash, so you
want a vehicle you'll like and that'll fit your needs.
Probably the best piece of advice from this List
( which I've totally ignored! ;-) )
is
"when buying a donor car, get the best (condition) one you
can afford, and make sure it's a car you can live with"
I've done it the hard way, using a rusty basket case of a
vehicle, which is old and out-of-date, and has a nightmarish
engine/gearbox to try to attach an electric motor to!
But then , I like a challenge ;-)
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
regards
