commercial, off the shelf AC drive

When I was fiddling with Baldor drives a few months ago running on 312
volt packs, I was thinking that the baldor took a potentiometer input.
Then I was thinking how much 288V of hawker 13Ah batteries would weigh.
And a 2-3hp induction motor (With a 5-7.5 hp inverter). It looked like a
no-regen NEV kit to me, if I could mate it to a gearbox with a clutch so
I could deal with stall torque issues. I have no idea what sort of
response time the potentiometer input has, but I know the Baldor mini
and micro drives will spin up a hydraulic pump to 1750rpm pretty
quickly. And if you wanted a braking resistor, that was an option too.

Just dreaming!
