M.S.C. helping EV exposure in S.Calif.

Annually, the Measurement Science Conference brings
metrologists & *standards* manufacturers together for on-
going education and previews of industry developments
(typically it’s lot’s of old cronies yappin’ about the
same ole measurement s**t). This year’s venue added a
(surprising) new EVent. Sorry for the ultra-short
notice, however, to hopefully prime help your appetite
for the 2002 EV season, S.Calif. Area EV’rs have a
unique chance to see up close & personal two significant
EV’s under the same roof.

On display through tomorow (Friday 1/25) at the Disney
Convention Center (Anaheim) is *White Lightning*,
current world land speed record holder for electric-
powered vehicles (245.5 mph from 6,040 NiMH *C* cells
feeding twin AC Propulsion 150KW controller/motors).
Both Ed Dempsey (owner) and Pat Rummerfield (driver) are
on hand to answer questions.

Also on display is a fully restored 1907 Baker Electric
Roadster. Updated with sealed (Concorde) AGM’s, PWM
controller, and on-board switch-mode charger, this
Pebble Beach Concors de Elegance *Best of Show* winner
provides a stunning example of how *life with an
electric vehicle* was for folks ~hundred years ago, and
yet completely usable vehicle today for in-town service.
The car is appraised and insured for over $200K. Casual
observers would attest to the quality & careful
attention to detail afforded by Baker & it’s current
owner: EV’rs will relish its inherent functionality.

I have to admit, as a relatively new EV’r, I am totally
humbled & overwhelmed by the achievements represented
here. Along with previous EVents I’ve attended (and/or
*EV gods* I’ve met), I feel fortunate to add these two
to my EV album of *all time hits*. I hope others can
share.

BTW, for you GM EV-1 or Honda EV-Plus drivers (anybody
still out there?!), there is an active inductive charger
in the P-1 (1st basement level) underground parking area
adjacent to the Convention Center. If you need help
getting in, my cell # is (425) 891-5318.

Hope to see you there.
