The trouble is that now touches in 3 places. You can't machine the I
pieces so they simultaneously touch in 3 places. There would be an
inevitable air gap at the left, right, or center, so it would buzz or
rattle. Same problem with the loose stack of E's and I's -- they touch
in 2 of 3 places.
