Now, that is very odd! In every DC EV I've driven, shifting early makes
the motor draw ~more~ current from the batteries, not less.
Presumably your goal was to use less current, and you seem to be saying
that your motor used ~less~ current at a lower rpm. That would seem to
indicate that your motor's back-emf ~drops~ as speed increases, the exact
opposite of what one would expect.
I thought you had a conventional series motor, but maybe not. What kind
of motor and controller do you have? Have you gotten your hands on
something unusual and exotic there?
