Lee,
The problem with machining transformer laminations is that they will
probably wind up all shorted together thus defeating the purpose of
having laminations.  As I am sure you are aware the laminations prevent
serious eddy current losses.  The laminations are normally coated with
an oxide layer to provide insulation.
