Re: Building my own equilizer

I looked at putting Powercheqs on my Scirocco, but decided they were too
expensive for a product that wasn't supported in the UK. I talked to Lee
about a modification to a Rudman Reg (of which I had my own version) to make
it non disipative. I spent a couple or three lunch hours breadboarding
circuits and winding RM10 cores, got some reasonable results, ordered parts,
and etched a set of 16 PCBs.

What I've done is build a flyback psu. They operate like a Mk1 RReg, turning
on at a preset threshold, but instead of connecting a load to the battery
they activate a fixed duty cycle pwm flyback psu and transfer the excess
energy to another battery. They're connected in a loop in an interleaved
manner, so the isolation never has to be more than 24 nominal. For example
battery 1-2,2-4,4-6,6-5,5-3,3-1.

They were designed and build in a hurry and have a number of faults, except
for the most important aspect, they work very well.
