you can get LOTS of electricity to produce the hydrogen from PV and wind
turbines... and producing hydrogen when those (variable) reasources are at peak
means that you don't have to shunt the excess away as waste heat and then be
left wanting when those resources are deminished (eg: various times of the day)
and don't have to rely on a battery pack to do so
of course, the beauty of hydrogen is that it can be used not only in fuel cells,
but you can burn it in ICEs and jet turbines, too, so the same fuel source can
be used in multiple ways... and it's pretty much inherently safer than any other
kind of fuel... that, with it's non-carbon emiting (ie: clean)
combustion/reaction cycle, makes hydrogen the obvious choice
so I'd say, it's DEFINITELY worth it
