Those numbers, if applicable to mass-production modules, are quite good.
I'm pretty sure I've read that in the past sample variability has been
quite high, enough that it was necessary to hand-select modules for
critical applications. That would obviously play hob with costs. I
wonder how the Matsushita product's consistency compares -- and for that
matter the Gold Peak's.
As for the nicad specific energy, it may be that Ovonic's writers
considered it for steel-jacketed nicads, which tend to be pretty heavy.
That seems uncharacteristic though -- after all they gave lead credit for
the high end of its SE, at 36 wh/kg.
While lead, nicad, and NiMH all have important roles to play in short-
term EV development, I hope to soon see a practical lithium polymer
battery for EV use. Because of the flexibility in shape, I think LiPoly
has great potential.
