RE: Building my own equilizer
Old Pb acid batteries (and I suspect any traction battery) tend to develop
different capacities. I think even some EV1s have had modules replaced due
to premature capacity loss. Lee Hart's type of ballancer has the potential
to reduce or remove this service call. As long as its only 1 or 2
batteries, and the decline is only 10 to 20% a high power ballancer could
cause that to only show as a decrease in range of 1/2 to 2% (those numbers
based on 20 batteries in the string). Removing the need for a service means
the EV is even more reliable than before. It also has the potential to help
with series finish charging to improve overall pack life, like Powercheqs
or Rudman Regs.
