Re: Mazda , an' Rabbit speed anp draw.
Hi Guy with Power/ speed Q's;
I'll throw some fresh ones with my Rabbit. It's 120 volts worth of
Trojan T-105's ,Rapture 6oo amp controller and ADV 9" motor, 4 speed, 5
speed died, liked it better, as I could pay the piper, ampwise, an' GO
faster. It's hard in CT to get a level plac round here to get an' honest
level run. I run the CT turnpike, I -95, from Madison to New Haven, daily
about 15-18 miles. To come on the hiway, at a decent speed, like 60 plus, I
floor it in 4th as I come round the curve, at first it's about 400 amps, as
the car gets up to speed, slightly upgrade here, of COURSE!, the amps drop
to about 200@ 60-65. That 18 wheeler doing about 75-80 swings into the left
lane and goes by like Gees! Gotta get out and fix it, it's stopped<G>! Only
doing the, HORRORS! Speed limit. Speed limit signs in Connecticut are merely
suggestions, rarely noticed. State could sava few bucks and take them down.
No body would notice. Back to the story: as I crest the rise, up to 70,
still 200 amps an' on the slite down grade, Oh, there are a few, take my
foot out of it, for cruising altitude, round 55-60 between 150-200, 100 or
less down and about 200 up grade, it's all up an' down. Guess I shoulda
taken notes over on flat Long Island 'cross the pond frm here, last summer,
when I got a 79 mile run. Coulda been easy 80, HAD juice left. Then I did
notice on level 40-45 two laner travel dropping down to 50-60 amps. Oh JOY!
A solid 120 volts, no sag. BTW the sag at 150-200 is 8 to 10 volts. But
Spring is here, the last few daze the range is back that I wasn't getting
through the Winter we had, ifyu can call it that.

A 120 volt Mazda? Sounds about right. We have a killer hill about
a mile long, or damn close, here. Was in a hurry to get to the Bank that was
closing in10 min ,so I went full power ,4 th gear and dragged it down to 45@
400 amps, 105 volts sag, after a 25 mile run from work with a nice juicy
battery. With the 5 speed, could hold 50, but at 450-500 amps, OUCH! but
doable. Great hill for regen. Went down that one in a Solectria and a BIG EV
grin. I usually dodge climbing that one directly and go down the side
streets in lower gears and slower. That way, if not in a hurry, can keep it
below 100 amps. Good when I'm outta juice, lottsa times, can inch home,
dignity intact, that way.> > Paul G wrote:

Gees! The Rabbit weighs about that, with me aboard! Guess the wind
drag is much worse than a Rabbit! Maybe brake drag or outta alignment? Tires
pumped up to about 55 psi will help?
Just thinking out loud; Wouldn't it be nice if anps@ speeds could be
posted to ,like Mike's EV album, for the many EV's shown, soya could see if
yu were in the park, power wise. After that first flush of success and EV
grin wears off a bit<G>!
