The Power of DC: American Amps
Thanks for the lead-in Bob!!
NEDRA's east coast event, "The Power of DC: American Amps" is coming up
fast.
June 29th at the Mason-Dixon Dragway in Hagerstown, MD. Gates open at 9:00
AM and the racing begins at 11:00 AM.
We have many returning after last year's race:
We are looking forward to the Ford vs. Chevy rematch, as Charlie Garlow in
his factory electric Chevy S-10 look to defend his title against Bryan
Murtha in his factory electric Ford Ranger.
Chip Gribben with his Ford Escort (and a new pack of batteries)
Brian Matheny and his super fast Toyota MR2 are traveling down from New
England
Eric Miller will be racing his Jr. Dragster, which has been hitting some
very impressive speeds in the 1/8th mile.
Bob Salem from Ohio with his VW truck and a new clutch
Darin Gilbert from Detroit and his 48v motorcycle might have a few tricks us
his sleeve.
Dave Mueller looks to defend his first place finish in the 96v and below
class with his electric cart.
There may also be a Sparrow or two thanks to Devin Battley, our local
Sparrow dealer.
NetGain’s “Bad Amplitude” is undergoing a major overhaul and the likelihood
that they will attend has slipped to “doubtful.” If everything goes right,
they may still make it, so everyone, please keep your fingers crossed.
Some new faces may also make an appearance at the track, including some
Esarati motorcycles. Please continue to check our web site for additional
contestants. We plan to be adding more in the future. If you would like to
be added to our “Contestants” page, please let me know.
For directions and track information, including local hotels, please visit
the Mason-Dixon Dragway site at:
http:\\www.masondixondragway.com
There is a $5 per person entrance fee at the gate. If you wish to race, $25
per vehicle, and if you aren't already a NEDRA member, your membership fee
of $35 can be collected at the Power of DC booth.
Racing concludes at 5:00 PM, and will be followed the awards presentations.
But, as we did last year, we have some great door prizes to give away
before the awards. Several sponsors have given us some items to give away,
including T-shirts, hats, and some other promotional materials. Please be
sure to pick up a Power of DC program with the raffle ticket inside, and
turn it in at the Power of DC booth.
For prizes for the racers, this year, we have some great prizes to give
away, including (see the Power of DC website for more details):
>From Quick Cable:
2/0 starter kit - This includes everything you need to start making 2/0
battery cables: Cable cutter, Hex Crimper, 2/0 Cable, heat shrink tubing, a
heat gun, and a large assortment of cable ends.
26" Hex Crimper
Quick Cutter - aka the "Rudman Disconnect"
PVC assortment of crimp connecters.
>From Charging Systems International:
One of their new Dual Pro Lightning series batteries and a Dual Pro Charger
>From EV Parts:
2 $100 EV Parts Gift Certificates
There will also be some cash prizes to be given away, and the following
sponsors have contributed to those:
KTA Services, Inc
Electric Vehicles of America
EV Parts
Washington DC Electric Vehicle Association
PEPCO will also be providing generators for our racers to recharge again
this year.
The Washington DC Electric Vehicle Association will have commemorative
T-shirts for sale again this year for $20. We are hoping to ward off the
dark clouds and night time thunderstorms we had last year, so instead of
black shirts with lightning bolts, this years shirts are white with the logo
you see on our web site, http://www.powerofdc.com
We look forward to seeing everyone, as this event was a great success last
year, and we anticipate an even better time this year.
Thanks,
Greg Pokorny
