The remote display is simple, but tedious. I unsoldered the LED's from the
regs and replaced them with 2 pin headers. I then drilled 13 pairs of
holes in a piece of aluminum angle and installed all the LED's there
(actually, I used new LED's so they would have long leads). I soldered a
piece of 4 conductor phone cable to each pair of LED's, ran it to the
appropriate reg, and put a pair of 2 pin plugs on the end.
Of course I also had to re-adjust all the regs.
It would probably be better to use regs with external loads, and put the
loads somewhere where a fan can blow on them. Of course this would mean a
BUNCH more wires running around.... I used the internal load version, and
have found that there are a few regs that could use more airflow. I'm
thinking of getting a bunch of those tiny CPU fans (old 486 ones are cheap)
and installing one on each reg.
