Re: Reg MKII's and cooling fans.
Having the resistors on too-small heatsinks, and then needing fans to
cool them, and then having problems when the fans fail, and then needing
thermostatic switches to operate the fans, and then more wires to hook
it all up... and doing it all 13 times? Isn't this the hard way around?
Why not get some automotive brake lights. They draw about 2 amps, same
as the on-board resistors. Mount THEM on your dash, as both the remote
load resistors and indicators. Obviously they are a bit bright, and all
their heat is concentrated in one area. So put them in a box with just
one fan and a thermostatic switch to turn it on. A smoked-glass front
bezel will keep the light they produce manageable.
One other clever (?) thought. Line the box with solar cells, and use
them to run the fan. The more lights that come on, the faster the fan
runs.
