I would be very interested in hearing about people's experiences around the 
country in disposing of battery cores.  Here in California (I believe this 
still applies, did last time I checked) you are REQUIRED to turn in a core 
when you buy a new battery, or they charge you a core charge.  And the 
battery dealers are legally REQUIRED to take the cores.  There are also 
battery recycling centers where they can be dropped off free. I don't 
believe anyone here is paying anything for battery cores, they just charge 
you if you don't have one.

How does it work elsewhere?
