Umm Joe..
The new 15 amp 120 volt outlets on the Tacoma class ferry( Siemans 4.4
Megawatt per end Tewac AC drive) Are useable by the public if you ASK,
and ask very politley.
The 45 amps 480 3 phase outlets on each end are for Dock use should
shore power fail and the Ferries can drive the dockside gear. They have
breakers in the engine room, and they really can't just flip them on
unless the Captian requests it so. I asked the 2nd Mate, since he is
one of my Highschool Buddies.
So... with effort we could suck 120VAC on the boat. In a 30 minute
shore to shore trip we need 30 plus amps of 240 VAC single phase to be
worth the hassels of getting connect permission. With a 5 to 10 EVs on
a boat, read demand in numbers I would expect to get some action.
It's possible... I have been told that there are a few Sparrows the
commute across the sound... some that Us listers don't even know about,
and they at times have been able to suck some charge.
Sparrows are Bikes, and get preferential load rights, the bike holding
pen at Edmonds has a car jumpstarter battery widget that's plugged in at
all time, and it's 120, and there is a extra recpticle. You should
beable to work your way up to the holding house and into the bike group
then use a 100 footer, to make it.
This could be tested.... Since I can make the boat from here, and I do
have a on board charger....
Also.... the Ranger towing the Fiesta is over 20 Ft and exacts a $45
charge. Either one alone costs about 6.50 with a commuter ticket Book.
So driving on the truck, and the Car, then hitching them up on the
Edmonds side, is a $22, savings.... I am going to do this the next time
across....If I can find a Alt driver.... Smalley???? or my teenager.
