Re:Oregon strikes against EVs

Hi Jon;

Yes, this was a hot topic of discussion some months back, with John Wayland
leading the lynching mod focused on Salem. Even got some press in PDX on
the subject. Search the archives if you want to catch up on that.

When I registered my EV, the title clearly was marked "Fuel: Electric", and
the dimbulbs at DMV ignored it, charged the usual ICE rate, and sent me a
new title without a designation in that box on the title. Did I complain?
Nope, I don't really care what they think it is, and as we don't have DEQ
inspections in Eugene, (you don't either up in your end of the valley), it
won't prove to be a problem in the future.

Aside from the obvious fact that SUV's should be paying a greater share of
the road repair costs (road damage goes up by the square of the vehicle
weight), the legislature is also missing the fact that many ICE's get
nearly as good of fuel economy as the hybrids (compared to large gas hogs).
My $250 wrecking yard diesel Rabbit gets 50 MPG, a scant 18 MPG short of
the Insight mileage benchmark. Of course, brewing your own Biodiesel (off
topic for this list) will take care of any road fuel tax problems there...

Here's a little web page about other in competencies within the Oregon DMV,
a story about registering my Pusher trailer:
http://www.mrsharkey.com/pusher6a.htm .

As I stated before (and for a variety of reasons): I used to think that the
Oregon legislature should be the first ones against the wall when the
revolution comes. Now I don't think we should wait for the revolution...
