The Power of DC: American Amps

What a GREAT day! While it was a little on the hot side, there was no rain
in sight. We had 13 EVs tearing up the strip at the Mason-Dixon Dragway,
and even an amazing EV vs ICE match-up.

Here are the results:

In the 97+ volts class (1/4 mile)
1) Robert Salem, "Electrk" VW pick-up, 15.856 sec, 80.14 mph
2) Brian Matheny, Toyota MR2, 19.456 sec, 66.23 mph
3) Chip Gribben, Ford Escort, 20.533 sec, 65.93 mph
4) Charlie Garlow, Chevy S-10, 20.567 sec, 65.544 mph
5) Bryan Murtha, Ford Ranger, 20.802 sec, 62.29 mph
6) Devin Battley, Green Sparrow, 21.709 sec, 64.07 mph
7) Devin Battley, Blue Sparrow, 21.715 sec, 63.88 mph
8) Dave Davidson, Dodge TEVan, 27.525 sec, 50.44 mph

In the 96- volt class (1/8th mile)
1) Darin Gilbert, "Piranha" Motor Cycle, 10.36 sec, 58.94 mph
2) Eric Miller, "Arizona Jack Rabbit" Jr. Dragster, 10.48 sec, 59.8 mph
   Driven by Eric VonReichenbach
3) Dave Mueller, "Blue Streak" Go-Cart, 11.36 sec, 56.33 mph
4) Shenandoah Valley, "Sweethart" Datsun 240Z, 12.464 sec, 50.99 mph
5) Dave Mueller, "Orange Crush" Go-Cart, 26.101 sec

3 records were set:
DR/H - "Arizona Jack Rabbit"
SP/C - Dave Davison's Dodge TEVan
HM/G - Shenandoah Valley's "Sweetheart"

Many of the racers made significant improvemnts over last year:
2001 2002
18.832 15.856 Bob Salem
20.737 20.533 Chip Gribben
21.016 20.802 Bryan Murtha

12.086 10.36 Darin Gilbert
13.33 10.48 Eric Miller
13.78 12.464 Shenandoah Valley

Bob Salem impressed the gassers that were there with his VW truck. he even
went down the track with a V8 Ranger. While the Ranger crossed the line
first, Bob kept right with him, and it got the crowd very excited. Hopefully
bob will post more about how this match-up came about, and what transpired
in the cockpit. Way to go Bob!!

I even tore myself away at the end and took Charlie Garlow's S-10 for a ride
down the strip. My 1.7 second reaction time was less than impressive, but I
had a good time.

Hopefully, some of the racers will post their stories to the list.

Thanks to all those that helped put this event together, the racers, most of
whom travelled great distances to be here, and our sponsors: KTA Services,
EV Parts, Electric Vehicles of America, Dual Pro, Quick Cable, and the
Washington DC Electric Vehicle Association!

See you next year!

Greg
