RE: Planning to go to Woodburn--have questions
When I take my boys (7 and 9) to the dragstrip, we start off by checking out
all of the cars, then watching some racing, then grabbing a bite to eat.
This brings us up to about the middle of the day and they are starting to
get bored. So, I hand each one 5 one dollar bills and we stay in the stands
and bet with each other on every race. I try to win and lose at such a rate
that they keep a couple bills on them at all times. This usually keeps them
interested in the racing for the entire day. One added benefit is that they
understand the concept of bracket racing much better than most adults (it's
not always the first or fastest that wins).
Granted I don't think gambling is something that should be encouraged with
children, and I try to be the sole winner by the end to prove my point to
them that it is simply not the best way to spend your money ("See if you
weren't betting, you'd have some money for ice cream or something wouldn't
you.")
Maybe a better way is to set-up a chart and see who can call the most wins
by the end of the day, or use some other form of non-monetary token.
Stay Charged!
