If I'm not mistaken, this is an intriguing exception, at least in the
European version. When last I heard, the City was using a 114v nicad
battery and an AC induction drive.
Brusa makes AC motors and inverters which work at voltages down to 108.
They don't have huge power output at those voltages -- about 26kw max -- but
that's adequate for many light vehicles. The earlier Pivco Citibees used
these at 120 volts and did rather nicely.
