RE: Transfer cases as EV transmissions (was: 4WD S10 Blazer question)
The ones I use can be shifted "on the fly" only between 2 wheel and 4 wheel
high range. When shifting into low range the vehicle needs to be almost
stopped and the transmission in neutral.

Many of them come with a low ratio around 2:1 and high ration is 1:1. Most
of the newer ones offer "shift on the fly" which, as I understand it, means
you can shift while moving and it doesn't require a clutch(?).
This would eliminate clutch, flywheel AND motor adapter.
If it worked this could represent a significant cost savings as well as a
weight savings, not to mention that many of these cases only weigh 45 lbs or
so.
P.S. The differential would give you an additional 4:1 reduction, give or
take. Total motor to wheel reduction would then be 8:1 in low and 4:1 in
high.
