Becca, I haven't seen the most recent statistics, but for the past decade about 8% of U.S. electricity has come from biomass. Much of this power is not grid connected, and relatively few electric utilities have biomass-fired capacity. Much of the capacity is owned by the paper and pulp industry and by some of the major timber companies. And the electricity is produced by combustion of the biomass to power a steam turbine and a generator. Only a small portion is produced from biogas - probably less than 1%. Relatively few biogas facilities produce more than 2 MW of power.
