GAS-L: Energy Storage- any solutions.
Dear David
As you say char is your primary objective for the activity, it doesn't fit
in well with power generation because the pyrolysis gases produced from the
char making is not appropriate for engine applications.
I can't really comment on the best way to store waste heat from the char
making process other than to put it into bulk water for a district heating
system. If on the other hand it were possible to generate surplus
electricity, I am sure the first choice would be to pump it into the local
grid. An alternative to this in a reticulation system supplying your own
little village, you could use a ripple switch system that you could trip
from the main board and direct the power into the hot water systems of each
house. This would be turned off during the day maybe other than when
needed, and at night the houses would be taking all the power you could
supply them anyway.
Seeing as you are interested in setting up rural activity that could utilise
the energy you are creating, it is worth while considering the creation of
bakery ovens that would not only act as a heat sink, but offer opportunity
for specialist breads etc. Just an idea.
Regards
Doug Williams.
