GP: News from BEF: Green Tags and Earth Day

We have purchased enough Green Tags from Bonneville Environmental Foundation
(BEF) for our family to be "climate-neutral" this year. For more
information, see www.greentagsusa.org .

Subject: News From BEF - Green Tags and Earth Day

Your support of BEF Green Tags is making a big difference. Let us count
some of the ways:

1) Solar Outlives Nuclear Power
With support from BEF, a 40 kilowatt solar installation - the largest in the
Northwest - is under construction on the site of the terminated WNP-1
nuclear power plant near Hanford, Washington. See a photo at
www.greentagsusa.org/GreenTags/sources.cfm

2) Watersheds Receive Funding
On April 4th, BEF awarded $229,711 in grants to six watershed projects. The
projects ranging from initial watershed biological assessments to long-term
restoration and monitoring projects are spread throughout the western states
of Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. For more information, go to
www.b-e-f.org/news/releases/040502.shtm and
http://www.b-e-f.org/grants/funded2002.shtm

3) Innovative Program Will Kick-Start New Solar
BEF has formed a partnership to buy Green Tags from new small solar
installations in Oregon and Washington. As many as 30 small solar
installations will be built on homes and businesses in the first phase of
the project. Environmental groups call this arrangement an innovative
approach to reducing the start-up costs for solar. You can read about the
project at www.b-e-f.org/news/releases/041202.shtm

4) Community Rewarded for Outstanding Support of Solar
When BEF contributed $43,000 to install a new 20 kilowatt community solar
project in Wenatchee, Washington, Chelan County Public Utility District
agreed to repay the BEF investment if the utility could convince its
customers to contribute support for the program. By the project’s dedication
on February 5, 2002, more than 670 customers had already signed up, allowing
BEF’s initial contribution to be paid back and then some! In recognition of
this outstanding response, the Foundation’s Board of Directors voted to
reinvest all the funds returned to BEF into installing additional solar
panels.

5) BEF Endorsed by Climate Neutral Network
In January, BEF Green Tags product and the BEF online calculator were
endorsed by the Climate Neutral Network as a solution for businesses and
others, no matter where they are located, to offset emissions of carbon
dioxide and the gases that contribute to global climate change. In
addition, BEF was certified as a Climate Cool business for offsetting 100%
of its Greenhouse Gas emissions with non-polluting, renewable energy.

Please join us in celebrating Earth Day with activities planned in your area
during the month of April. It is a perfect time to remember that renewable
energy – such as Green Tags from BEF – is the best way to offset the
emissions that contribute to global climate change. Encourage others to
join the campaign. It’s easy and effective. Each purchase of BEF Green
Tags makes a big difference. Thank you for your support.
